Free Resources for Your Upcoming Learning Vacation
Participants interested in learning more about an upcoming Vanishing Trails Expeditions are provided with suggested reading lists. We also provide historically researched background materials online with two websites for armchair travelers as well as those already booked on an excursion to the past.
The first is devoted entirely to the epic journey of America’s first government sponsored exploration. Written by Tour Director Kris Lokemoen, the Explore the Lewis & Clark Trail site includes eleven articles chronicling the 28 month adventure which opened America’s West. The articles originally appeared in Show-Me Missouri magazine (showmemissouri.net) and were added quarterly as they appeared in the months leading up to the anniversary of the Corps’1804 departure from St. Louis. Also included are several research papers on the expedition written by Shebby Lee.
The articles on the second site: Explore the Old West covers a broader range of subjects researched and written by award-winning historian Shebby Lee over the past 35 years. The sites are designed to enhance the touring experience offered to participants on Shebby Lee Tours’ western interpretive programs. Historic graphics lend interest to the site, and brain teasers such as a unique “What if?” category encourage visitors to speculate on paths not taken in a number of posed situations.
