Day # 2 - Gettysburg
Today visit the U.S. Christian Commission Log Chapel, an authentic Civil War Chapel where costumed interpreters will share the story of unsung heroes who provided for the needs of the soldiers. Then visit the David Wills House where Lincoln completed one of America’s most famous speeches. Visit the newly expanded Gettysburg Museum before our in depth guided tour of Gettysburg Battlefield, followed by a private, after-hours curator talk at the newly restored, massive “Battle of Gettysburg” Cyclorama painting. After the battle on July 4, 1863, General Robert E. Lee retreated West through the town of Fairfield, stopping for nourishment at the Fairfield Inn (1757), one of only five Inns in America in continuous operation since the 1700′s. You’ll enjoy the same meal the Confederate Generals dined on that night. Courtyard by Marriott, Gettysburg (B, D)

Visit the Boonsborough Museum of History and its extensive Civil War collection and the Pry House Field Hospital Museum, used by the Union high command during the battle of Antietam and visited by Abraham Lincoln two weeks later. Tour Antietam National Battlefield, the scene of the Civil War’s bloodiest one-day battle on September 17, 1862 — ending General Lee’s first northern invasion.
We’ll have free time for lunch on your own in Shepherdstown, WV which is little changed since the 19th century. Stop at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, site John Brown’s famous raid in October 1859.
