Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 – Airport transfers included. Welcome dinner followed by the awesome lighting ceremony at Mount Rushmore. Overnight in Rapid City, SD. (D)
Day 2 – Visit Mount Rushmore again for daylight photos, and Crazy Horse Mountain sculpture. Take an adventurous jeep tour to see the buffalo and other wildlife which roam free in Custer State Park. Overnight: Rapid City. (B, D)
Day 3 – Described by early explorers as “hell with the fires burned out”, South Dakota’s Badlands National Park offers unique geologic beauty, Native American culture and of course, world-famous Wall Drug. Overnight: Chamberlain, SD. (B)
Day 4 – Visit Akta Lakota Museum at St. Joseph Indian School. In Bismarck visit the outstanding exhibits at the North Dakota Heritage Center before our dinner-cruise on the Missouri River. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, L, D)
Day 5 – Visit Fort Abraham Lincoln, George Armstrong Custer’s final command post and tour the Custer home. Visit the only park in the National Park System that is set aside to commemorate the Plains Indian: Knife River Indian Villages. See a model earth lodge. Overnight tonight: Williston, ND. (B, L)
Day 6 – Tour Fort Union, the most important fur trading post on the Missouri River between 1822 and 1867. On his ranch near Medora, ND, Teddy Roosevelt formulated many of his conservation ideas and rugged personal qualities. We’ll visit the national park named for the “bully” president, enjoy a unique pitchfork fondue and take in a performance of the much-acclaimed Medora Musical. Overnight: Medora, ND. (B, D)
Day 7 – Free time in Medora for exploring or an optional trail ride. Overnight: Billings, MT. (B)
Day 8 – Tour Little Big Horn National Historic Battlefield with a Native American guide. Overnight: Rapid City. (CB, D)
