Tour Itinerary
Day # 1 – Airport transfers included. Museum of Westward Expansion. IMAX: Great Journey West. Welcome dinner. Overnight: St. Louis, MO (D)
Day # 2 – Our journey retracing the steps of the Corps of Discovery begins with a visit to Lewis & Clark State Historic Park – the site of Camp Wood where the Corps prepared for their epic journey during the winter of 1803, and the for an overview of this epic voyage. Then it’s on to historic St. Charles, a thriving fur-trading settlement at the time of the Corps’ departure in 1804, and their last sight of “civilization”. We’ll stroll the same cobblestone streets and learn about the expedition’s final departure preparations before calling it a day. Overnight: St. Louis. (B)
Day # 3 – Follow the Missouri River through some of America’s most scenic landscapes. The legendary trailblazer Daniel Boone had retired to his son’s house on the banks of the Missouri when our heroes sailed by. Tour the stone house where he spent the last twenty years of his life and learn about an earlier period of exploration. In the charming town of Hermann. Here we’ll take a tour and wine tasting at the 1845 Stone Hill Winery, and have a traditional German lunch in the onsite restaurant. Overnight: Columbia, MO. (B,L)
Day # 4 – Lewis & Clark noted the Arrow Rock bluff and nearby salt licks on their 1804 outbound journey. Tour the charming townsite founded in 1829 and learn of its importance in the exploration and settling of the West. Fort Osage, was built at the suggestion of William Clark to protect the growing fur trade. Tour National Frontier Trails Center. Overnight: Kansas City. (B, L)
Day # 5 – Tour the amazing Arabia Steamboat Museum for a look at period lifestyles and trade goods. Visit the historic sites of St. Joseph, including the National Pony Express Monument. Overnight: Kansas City. (B, D)
