Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 – Airport tranfers included. Get-acquainted dinner. Overnight: Council Bluffs, IA.(D)
Day 2 – Tour Fort Atkinson, one of several frontier forts built on the recommendation of Wm. Clark. Enjoy a campfire lunch on the riverside. Tour the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Sioux City. Overnight: South Sioux City, NE. (B, L)
Day 3 – Visit Spirit Mound (reputed to be the home of 18″ devils) which the Corps climbed on their passage upstream. Gavin’s Point Dam, the site of the first encounter with the Yankton Sioux and a commemorative dinner served on the banks of the Missouri River top off a perfect day on the Northern Plains. Overnight: Chamberlain, SD. (B, D)
Day 4 – Visit Akta Lakota Museum at world famous St. Joseph Indian School. Enjoy a riverside picnic near the spot where the Corps encountered their first “hostile” natives. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, L)
Day 5 – On-A-Slant Village was already abandoned when Lewis & Clark sailed by. We’ll tour the rebuilt lodges and visit the outstanding exhibits at the North Dakota Heritage Center before our dinner-cruise on the mighty Missouri, which has become a familiar friend over the course of our journey. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, D)
Day 6 – This morning we visit the site where the Corps of Discovery wintered under the watchful eyes of the Mandans and Hidatsas, Fort Mandan, and tour the nearby Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center.
