Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 – Airport transfers included. Enjoy a wonderful Missouri River dinner cruise. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (D)
Day 2 – Visit the Fort Mandan replica and the newly expanded Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. This afternoon visit the outstanding exhibits at the North Dakota Heritage Center. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, D)
Day 3 – Fort Abraham Lincoln was Lt. Col G.A. Custer’s last assignment before riding off into history. Here we’ll tour the rebuilt Custer House and learn what life was like at a remote frontier army post. This afternoon we’ll travel to the only park in the National Park System which is set aside to commemorate the Plains Indian: Knife River Indian Villages. The outstanding interpretive center and model earth lodge shed light on the people who continually inhabited this site for as long as 500-600 years ago to 1845. Overnight: Williston, ND. (B, L)
Day 4 – Tour Fort Union, the most important fur trading post on the Missouri River between 1822 and 1867. Teddy Roosevelt formulated many of his conservation ideas and rugged personal qualities while a rancher near Medora. Visit the national park named for the “bully” president, tour his cabin home, enjoy a unique pitchfork fondue and take in a performance of the much-acclaimed Medora Musical before calling it a day! Day 5 – This morning enjoy free time in Medora to explore the numerous shops and museums or take an optional trail ride in the park before returning to Bismarck for our festive farewell dinner. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, D)
