Tour Itinerary:

Day 1 – Welcome to the Black Hills of South Dakota!  Airport transfers are included to our hotel as well as a festive welcome dinner.  Overnight: Rapid City, SD (D)

Day 2 – Today we visit the iconic mountain carvings of  Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse Monument and view buffalo and other wildlife that roam free in Custer State Park. Dinner is at the Park’s State Game Lodge, Summer White House to two US Presidents. Overnight again in Rapid City. (B, D)

Day 3 – South Dakota’s Badlands National Park is our highlight today. Described by early explorers as “hell with the fires burned out”, the Badlands offer unique geologic beauty, Native American culture and of course, world-famous Wall Drug.  Our overnight tonight is at the beautiful Cedar Shores Resort overlooking the Missouri River. Day 4 – This morning we’ll visit the outstanding Akta Lakota Museum at world famous St. Joseph Indian School.  We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Bad River where Lewis & Clark encountered their first “hostile” natives. Overnight in Bismarck, ND. (L)

Day 5 – Today we’ll explore the Fort Mandan replica and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, ending a memorable day with a relaxing dinner-cruise on the mighty Missouri. Overnight: Bismarck, ND. (B, D)

Day 6 – Knife River Indian Villages was where the Corps encountered Sacagawea for the first time.  Our next stop is Medora in Teddy Roosevelt country. We’ll visit the national park named for the “bully” president, enjoy a unique pitchfork fondue and take in a performance of the much-acclaimed Medora Musical before calling it a day! Overnight:  Medora. (B, D)

Day 7 – This morning we’ll have free time to explore the numerous shops and museums or take an optional trail ride in the park before heading south to the historic gold camp of DeadwoodTatanka: Story of the Bison is a larger-than-life bronze sculpture which, along with the interpretive center, offers a unique snapshot of Indian life as it was during the height of the Buffalo Culture around the year 1840. Overnight: Rapid City. (D, B)
