TOUR ITINERARY:

DAY # 1 - ARRIVALS

Airport transfers are provided directly to the Cowboy State.  The Terry Bison Ranch will give us historical perspective on the bison and their relationship to the development of the West, and enjoy an Old West dinner.  Overnight: Cheyenne. (D)

DAY # 2 - OLD WEST MUSEUM / CHEYENNE CITY TOUR BY TROLLEY

This morning  tour the Cheyenne Frontier Days’ Old West Museum and get a “behind the chutes” look at the rodeo.  Browse some exclusive galleries and outfitters and learn more about the town’s cowboy heritage on a narrated trolley tour.  Overnight:  Laramie. (B)

DAY # 3 - WYOMING TERRITORIAL MUSEUM

Today view wildlife in Sybille Canyon and visit the Virginian Hotel made famous by Owen Wister.  Tour the Wyoming Territorial Prison which once housed the Sundance Kid, among other western desperados, and the Frontier Marshal’s Museum.   Overnight: Laramie. (B, D)

DAY # 4 - SNOWY RANGE SCENIC BYWAY / SINKS CANYON STATE PARK

Travel over the Snowy Range Scenic Byway to the Wind River Indian Reservation, home to the Shoshone and Arapaho.  Sinks Canyon State Park  featues a geologic phenomenon in which the Popo Agie River vanishes into a large cavern but reappears in a trout-filled pool about a half mile down the canyon. Overnight: Thermopolis. (B)

DAY # 5 - HOT SPRINGS STATE PARK / WYOMING DINOSAUR CENTER

This morning we’ll have free time to explore Hot Springs State Park which contains the world’s largest single mineral hot spring, Big Spring,  two swimming plunges, the Hot Springs Museum and Cultural Center, Rainbow Terrace falls, and a herd of buffalo. This afternoon take a guided tour of the  Wyoming Dinosaur Center, a world-class museum and working dig. Overnight:  Thermopolis. (B, D)

DAY # 6 - MORMON HANCART CENTER / OREGON TRAIL SITES

Today visit the outstanding Mormon Handcart Interpretive Center, Independence Rock, and the new National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.  Tonight’s farewell dinner will include more Old West surprises. Overnight:  Casper, WY.  (B,D)

DAY # 7 - FORT LARAMIE / OREGON TRAIL WAGON RUTS

This morning the trail leads to Fort Laramie where nearby Wagon wheel ruts and an interpretive tour of the Fort provide a deeper understanding of both the westward expansion movement and the Native Americans who were displaced.  A picnic lunch precedes our return to Denver for our late afternoon flights. (B, L)
