TOUR ITINERARY:

DAY # 1 – ARRIVALS

Airport transfers included.  Welcome dinner. Overnight: Denver, CO. (D)

DAY # 2 – OREGON TRAIL

The trail leads to Fort Laramie as we tour the best-known milepost on the Oregon Trail.  View authentic Wagon wheel ruts. Enjoy an  Oregon Trail cookout in the shadow of Chimney Rock. We’ll sing songs around the campfire and reflect on the spirit of the pioneers who passed this way on their westward journey. Overnight:  Scottsbluff, NE.  (D)

DAY # 3 – INDIAN TERRITORY

Tour Fort Robinson, a strategically located military and Indian agency during the Plains Indian Wars, where Crazy Horse breathed his last. Visit the outstanding Museum of the Fur Trade. Attend the awe-inspiring evening lighting ceremony at Mount Rushmore. Overnight:  Rapid City, SD (B)

DAY # 4 – BLACK HILLS / MOUNT RUSHMORE

Visit Mount Rushmore again for daytime photos, Crazy Horse Monument, the still-unfinished mountain carving dedicated to Native Americans, and Custer State Park, for an open-air jeep ride to view the buffalo and other wildlife that roam free. Dinner tonight is at the State Game Lodge, summer White House to two US Presidents.   Overnight:  Rapid City. (D)

DAY # 5 – HISTORIC DEADWOOD

Visit historic Deadwood, tour historic Boot Hill where the legends now rest.  Visit Tatanka: Story of the Bison, a larger-than-life bronze sculpture featuring 14 bison being pursued by 3 Native American riders and a Center depicting the height of the Buffalo Culture around the year 1840. Overnight:  Sheridan, WY  (B)

DAY # 6 – CUSTER'S LAST STAND

Today’s trail leads to the Little Big Horn National Historic Battlefield, site of the famous confrontation between Crazy Horse and the egotistical Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer. Then we’ll move on to another frontier landmark: Fort Caspar, built to protect Oregon Trail and Mormon pioneers on the Platte River.  Tour the outstanding National Historic Trail Interpretive Center. Tonight celebrate our Old West adventure and new-found friends at a festive farewell dinner. Overnight: Casper, WY. (B,D)

DAY # 7 – DEPARTURES

Airport transfers included to Denver for afternoon departures. (B)

Majestic mountain scenery, Old West adventure and historic trails highlight this 7 day journey to the past.  This Denver circle tour travels through the cowboy state of Wyoming where cattle still roam free and fences are few and far between.  Visit the site of “Custer’s Last Stand”, stroll the same storied streets of Deadwood Gulch once inhabited by Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickock and Poker Alice, view awe-inspiring mountain carvings, and walk in actual Oregon Trail wagon ruts which have survived more than a century of sun, wind and weather.
